VW Beetle update

As we make the final push to get the VW Beetle back on the road, it passed the MOT with no problem at all and we have now fitted most of the exterior trim, running boards, etc.

Next week we will be re-building the carburettor to address an issue when accelerating and carrying out some final adjustments on the brakes. All being well the Beetle will be ready for collection next week ready for summer.

Weekly Workshop Update

Things are going well with our 2x VW projects…we have fitted a missing gear linkage part to the camper & tuned the engine – next stop, MOT!

The Beetle is almost finished as well, we have fitted the lights, bumpers, running boards and engine lid. Just a few little jobs to finish off now (new copper fuel line after discovering a leak, replacing a slightly warped crankshaft pulley) then we will flat & polish the paintwork before it goes off for its MOT.

We have stripped the majority of paint off the Jaguar Mk1 and we are just awaiting a date with the engine rebuilders to send off the engine & gearbox.

More photos will be uploaded soon…

Weekly Workshop Update

Despite another bank holiday, we’ve been very busy in the workshop…

The Jaguar Mk1 strip down is going well and is well on the way to being prepared for a respray. Below is a photo of the car just before we took the engine out:

  • Jaguar Mk1

Getting ready to remove the engine & gearbox to be sent off for rebuilding

The Beetle final assembly is coming along nicely too, we have completed the interior re-fit and are almost there with the external glass and panels:

Rear bumper & light lenses fitted

  • VW Beetle

    Door panels installed & assembled

The VW camper is almost ready for its MOT too, the tyres have been mounted onto the newly refurbished wheels and the engine should be re-fitted this week.

VW Beetle update

The re-assembly on the VW Beetle is going very well. The engine is running and has been finely tuned, the electrical systems are all checked and working following some minor repairs.

We have fitted a brand new vinyl headlining and fitted the front & rear glass. Once the chrome trim has been fitted the windows will be complete.

We still have some work to do in order to finish the Beetle but it will be MOT’d and back on the road very soon!

Weekly Workshop Update

It’s been another busy week at the workshop…

The Triumph Stag is coming along, we have cut out the rotten floor and will be replacing with new metal soon – we’ll upload some ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos when the job is complete.

We’ve got the engine fired in the VW Beetle & it’s running nicely. Next week we’ll be doing some fine tuning & setting the timing so it runs perfectly.

On the VW camper, we have blasted & painted the original wheels. They have come out great & we’ll be mounting the tyres next week. We’ve added a few photos to the project page and you can see the new wheels below:

VW Beetle re-assembly

The re-assembly on the VW Beetle is going really well. The wings and doors are bolted back onto the car, the wiring has been completed and we have fitted the classic Porsche 944 seats that the customer wanted in the car:

  • VW Beetle

The engine is now in & the rear lights ready to test

  • VW Beetle

Once the exhaust is in & the fuel tank is installed we can fire this engine up

  • VW Beetle

New chrome trim fitted, headlining should be fitted next week along with the glass

  • VW Beetle

Custom seat fitting kit installed so that these Porsche 944 seats could be fitted

  • VW Beetle

    Not long to go now...

Next week we will be installing the headlining, glass and pop out rear windows. Now that the new tail pipes have arrived and we have cleaned out the fuel tank, we should have the engine running next week too.

The engine is installed and we have cleaned it up, fitted new tinware and installed a new distributor and carburettor. It is the original engine for the Beetle and we can’t wait to hear it run for the first time in 3 years.
